Gosh, that Blackjack dealer looks like Elizabeth Taylor

On a winter evening in 1977, the men and women attending “Casino Night” at the Middleburg Community Center received a special treat. The wife of Virginia Senator John Warner decided she wanted to deal blackjack. Her name: Elizabeth Taylor. She and her husband lived near Middleburg and were frequently seen around town.

She became famous for movies like National Velvet, Cleopatra, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? but I always liked her in Giant from 1956 that co-starred Rock Hudson and James Dean. I think she held her own against two great actors. Or maybe I just like westerns. Who knows? I do know that my favorite quote of her’s was: “One problem with people who have no vices is that they’re pretty sure to have some annoying virtues.”

Rest in peace.

Read her obituary here from the L.A. Times.

  1. My husband was served ice cream by Elizabeth Taylor in The Plains during Warner’s election campaign for US Senator – he will never forget that ice cream cone!

    • I’ll bet ice cream never tasted so good!
