Purcellville Farmers Market

Purcellville Farmers Market

Growing up in Virginia I have strong early memories of my grandmother’s gardens and the foods she would serve from them. The warm, fragrant tomatoes and cantaloupes simply sliced and served with a dash of salt. Buttered corn on the cob, bowls of seasoned beans, and cobblers made with fruit from her orchard. Today I have my own garden but I’m too impatient for it to begin producing. Thankfully there are more experienced and established farmers out there already harvesting the first crops of spring. And they’ll be out at the farmers markets this weekend when they reopen for the summer season in Loudoun. Loudoun is filled with seasonal community markets, with one in most every community from Lovettsville to Middleburg. There are roadside stands, farms with markets onsite, and cooperative markets sharing the bounty of Loudoun’s farms with residents and visitors. Take the time to talk with the farmers and ask what they like best or how they would prepare a food.  Even if you’re not a cook, these foods are so fresh that they require little preparation. Sometimes all you have to do is slice and eat. And maybe add a dash of salt. Visit our website for more details on Loudoun’s Farmers Markets.
