Raise a glass to those who served this Memorial Day
Memorial Day is just around the corner and while it has become known as the official kick off to summer, it is also a time to honor the brave men and women who lost their lives serving their country.
This weekend, we invite you to both honor our fallen soldiers and celebrate the start of summer in DC’s Wine Country!
On May 24 & 25, Sunset Hills Vineyard will commemorate all soldiers, sailors and Marines who lost their lives with complimentary wine tastings for visitors who wear red, white and blue. The winery will feature live music and food as well as donate a portion of the sales of its 2012 Sunset Red to PAWS for People, also known as Pet-Assisted Visitation Volunteer Services.
Or, spend the weekend with the whole family at Great Country Farms, which will have Northern Virginia’s biggest u-pick strawberry festival on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss the pie eating contest, tart toss and the delectable strawberry sundaes!
Visitors can also get a rare glimpse into horse country during the 55th Annual Hunt Country Stable Tour. Travel through our winding country roads to explore fox hunting barns, thoroughbred breeding farms and country estates.
With the forecast calling for sunny days, Memorial Day weekend will also be a great time to explore Harpers Ferry Adventure Center’s new Adventure Park. The three-level high challenge course features more than 50 cable and rope bridges along with ziplines that wind through the treetops.
While in town enjoying our outdoor adventures, vineyards and farms, take some time to also visit the numerous places in Loudoun where you can commemorate and honor the brave men and women who lost their lives serving this country.
Loudoun County, which found itself in the middle of the Civil War more than 150 years ago, also has several memorials open to visitors. Some include Ball’s Bluff Battlefield’s National Cemetery, Leesburg’s Union Cemetery and Middleburg’s memorials to the Unknown Dead and the horses and mules from the Civil War.
