Relive Loudoun’s Civil War Experience October 22-23

Weekend highlighted by first-ever reenactment of Ball’s Bluff held on the actual battlefield.
On October 22, 2011, one-hundred and fifty years and a day after the original battle took place, Loudoun County will witness a reenactment of one of the pivotal battles of the Civil War: Ball’s Bluff. This 150th anniversary commemoration will include 1,000 reenactors representing both Union and Confederate forces, cannon, and rifles in the newly restored battlefield outside the town of Leesburg overlooking the Potomac River. Visitors will have a chance to witness this engagement, and experience the sounds, sites, smells and strategy of this famous and important battle. The reenactment starts at 2pm and tickets, which are available only online at www.150thballsbluff.com, are $5 plus a small service fee. Pre-registration is required.
That same weekend, on October 22-23, “Along the Potomac,” a companion event at nearby historic Morven Park will be held. This event will feature Union and Confederate camps with living history demonstrations including cooking, firing, and marching. On Saturday, the troops camped here will march to participate in the Ball’s Bluff Reenactment, and on Sunday, the reenactors will stage the Dranesville Skirmish reenactment at Morven Park.
