Celebrate Outdoors Month in DC’s Wine Country

Summer has arrived! June is Great Outdoors Month and a time when Virginia celebrates its natural wonders and encourages people to get active and explore this beautiful state.

From rock climbing and kayaking to zipline tours and biking trails, there is something for every outdoor enthusiast in DC’s Wine Country. Below are just a few of the ways to explore our lush vineyards, waterways and rolling countryside. For more ideas, check out our website!

Harpers Ferry Adventure Center: This one-stop activity center features everything from whitewater kayaking and tubing to zip line and Segway tours, camping, and guided rock climbs through some of Shenandoah’s most enticing peaks. Don’t forget to check out the new Adventure Park that includes more than 50 cable and rope bridges and ziplines that weave through the treetops.

Cyclists: Check out Trail’s End Cycling’s winery tours that bring visitors to three wineries and through 20 miles of Loudoun’s countryside. Or take a leisurely ride down the 45-mile W&OD Trail, which ends in Purcellville and is located on the roadbed of the former Washington & Old Dominion Railroad.VL-Biking_DSC7851

Tree Top Zip Tours: Soar above the beautiful Middleburg countryside on one of Salamander Resort & Spa’s new Canopy Zip Tours. Set to launch in July, these tours are available for both guests and the public and include five zip lines and two suspension sky bridges.

Raft and Draft Package: Soar down the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers aboard a whitewater rafting trip that includes stops at White Horse and Bull Falls then receive an exclusive voucher to Lost Rhino Brewing Company. Cost: $79

River & Trail Outfitters’ Paddle and Wine tour: Take a kayak trip across the Potomac River to Tarara Winery to enjoy wine tastings and live music. During the 4.5-7 miles kayak tour, watch for Blue Herons and Bald Eagles before docking at the 475-acre winery. Package is available on Saturdays for $95.

Adventure Games Package at Comfort Suites Leesburg and Pev’s Paintball Park: Challenge the whole family to a paintball match with this package that includes overnight accommodations and tickets to Pev’s Paintball  – the ultimate outdoor recreation park that includes 14 playing fields, numerous props, caves and rock fields.

Lansdowne Resort Golf Packages: Tee off in the heart of wine country at this resort, featuring 45 holes of championship golf. The three unique courses were designed by Robert Trent Jones, II and Greg Norman  and include the challenging 9-hole Sharkbite Course.
