Whether you walk, jog or crawl to the finish line, the important thing is that you made it and had a great time. Loudoun is home to numerous spring runs and walks that take you through the beautiful countryside and vineyards, so plan a trip for a few days or a week around one of these great athletic events!
8th Annual Brambleton Ribbon Run – April 16th
On April 16th more than 2,000 runners and walkers will gather at the Brambleton Town Center for the annual Ribbon Run, which raises awareness and money for breast cancer. Named Northern Virginia’s Best Charity event in 2014 by Virginia Living Magazine, the event has been a growing success over the years. Take on the 5k individually or run with friends and family for this great cause. Make sure to register before it’s too late!
Superhero 5k/Walk and Kids FUN RUN – April 24th
Choose your favorite superhero (mine would be Iron Man) and dress up like Halloween is happening in April at the Superhero 5k Fun Run! Taking place in Leesburg, the Superhero 5K shows that anyone can be a hero as you run alongside other heroes or even some villains (my favorite is Cruella DeVille) to raise money for Boulder Crest Retreat for Military & Veteran Wellness. Grab some friends and create your own Avengers group or Justice League and come to LoCo!
Loudoun Lyme 5K/10K/1K – May 15th
The 6th Annual Loudoun Lyme 5K/10K/1K at Brambleton will drive awareness and raise money to help find a cure for Lyme disease – the number one tick-borne illness in the United States. The Loudoun Lyme 5K/10K/1K will also feature a 1mile fun run, children’s activities, and an information fair to educate the public about Lyme disease and its causes, symptoms, and treatments.
Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon – June 4th
The Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon is back in Loudoun at Doukenie Winery! This half marathon event is not just a running race, but a destination lifestyle experience. The race starts and finishes at the bucolic Doukenie Winery, the perfect venue for a post-race Wine & Music Festival. Don’t let the fun stop there – food and wine events take place all weekend long! The event weekend kicks off with a Welcome Reception at Winery 32, and comes to an end with a Finisher’s Celebration at Breaux Vineyards.
