The Appalachian Trail weaves in and out of Loudoun County from Route 50 to the south, and extending north until crossing the Potomac River towards Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. This stretch of trail is home to the notoriously difficult “Roller Coaster” in which climbers ascend and descend more than a dozen significant hills for a total of 5,000 feet of gain as you make your way toward WV. Halfway through the Roller Coaster hikers are treated to the Bears Den Trail Center, which is one of the luxurious accommodations you will find on the entire AT.

Next time you are out tackling the AT, make sure you tag #LoveLoudoun to share your pictures!
